The publication by Hancock et al. investigated a change to the best practice for Post Vasectomy Semen Analysis (PVSA) to determine an acceptable and cost-effective alternative. The study concluded that large volume glass disposable slides gave results that were at least as effective as the previously considered ‘gold standard’ and the two could be considered ‘interchangeable’. It could be concluded that this method is an acceptable alternative to that described in the BAS 2002 guidelines. Time and motion studies also demonstrate an economical benefit in using the large volume glass disposable slides.
